2022 세계무형문화유산포럼 ‧ 국립무형유산원 학술대회 9.21.~23.

  문화재청 국립무형유산원(원장 이경훈)이 주최하고 유네스코아태무형유산센터(사무총장 김지성)가 주관하는 「2022 세계무형문화유산포럼」과 「2022 국립무형유산원 학술대회」가 오는 9월 21일부터 23일까지 온라인으로 3일간 개최된다.

  올해로 6년째를 맞는 세계무형문화유산포럼은 각국 무형유산의 현황을 공유하고, 그 보전‧전승을 위한 합리적 방안을 모색하는 국제학술회의로, 이번에는 국립무형유산원 학술대회와 연계하여 보다 풍성하게 진행된다. 무엇보다 전 세계 12개국 30여 명의 무형유산 전문가들이 대거 참여함으로써 세계 각국의 무형유산 전승사례들이 다채롭게 소개될 예정이다.

  이번 포럼의 주제는 “전통지식, 자연과 인간에 관한 사유와 실천”, 학술대회 주제는 “한국의 전통 관개지식과 문화”이다. 각국의 지역 공동체가 생산하고, 공유해 온 전통적 지식의 가치와 역할을 논하고, 인류가 보편적으로 축적해온 대표적 전통지식인 전통적 수리(水利)방식, 전통적 치유지식을 탐색한다. 포럼은 온라인으로 개최될 예정이며 메타버스 신기술을 활용한 가상회의 플랫폼을 통해 발표자와 관람자들이 보다 흥미롭게 회의에 참여할 수 있도록 하였다.

  총 3일 동안 진행되는 포럼 첫날 ▲기조발제는 <전통지식의 무형유산 가치와 역할>을 주제로 무형유산 분야에서 세계적인 석학인 ‘호주국립대학교 로라 제인 스미스 교수’와 ‘한경구 유네스코한국위원회 사무총장’이 맡았다. 이후 ▲포럼 1세션에서는 <무형문화유산으로서 전통지식의 보호와 전승>을 중심으로 전통지식의 보호와 전승을 위한 다양한 개념, 가치, 사례 등을 다룰 예정이다.

  둘째 날, 22일 오전 △학술대회에서는 <한국의 전통 관개지식과 문화>를 주제로 한국의 전통 보와 간척지에서의 관개방식을 논의하고, 이어지는 ▲포럼 2세션 <전통지식과 지속가능한 물 관리>에서는 일본, 인도네시아의 전통 관개지식과 페루와 스리랑카의 물 관리 전통지식을 소개한다.

  마지막 날인 23일은 ▲포럼 3세션 <전통지식으로서 전통의료의 이해와 발전방안>에는 무형유산으로서 전통의료에 대한 주디스 파콰르 시카고대학교 명예교수의 특별 강연에 이어 괌, 태국, 콜롬비아 그리고 베트남의 전통의료 사례를 다양하게 다룰 예정이다.

  「2022 세계무형문화유산포럼」과 「2022 국립무형유산원 학술대회」는 그동안 과학기술의 급격한 발전, 세계화 및 도시화로 인하여 그 가치를 제대로 인정받지 못한 전통지식의 무형유산적 가치에 주목하며, 인류가 그동안 쌓아온 다양한 생산, 의료, 생활 관련 전통지식이 인류 공동체의 생존, 번영에 얼마나 큰 역할을 해왔는지 조명해보는 시간이 될 것이다.

  본 포럼은 온라인으로 진행되며 유튜브 채널 ‘국립무형유산원(www.youtube.com/c/국립무형유산원)’, ‘유네스코아태무형유산센터’, 그리고 ‘전주 MBC’에서 생중계된다. 또한 온라인 메타버스 ZEP(https://zep.us/play/2mYqBe) 을 통해서도 포럼을 확인할 수 있다.

  Hosted by the National Intangible Heritage Center (Director-General Yi, Kyunghoon) under the Cultural Heritage Administration and overseen by UNESCO ICHCAP (Director-General Ji Sung Kim), the 2022 ICH World Forum will be gathering together global experts in one place online from September 21 to 23.

  The ICH World Forum celebrates its sixth year in 2022 under the theme of “Traditional Knowledge, Thoughts and Practices Concerning Nature and Humanity” and promises to be a valuable opportunity for around 30 experts from 12 countries worldwide to collectively shed new light on the importance of traditional knowledge and re-examine the value of traditional knowledge as a form of intangible cultural heritage.

  Hosting a total of three sessions across three days, the forum will open with keynote presentations by Professor Laurajane Smith of the Australian National University, who is a world-renowned scholar in the field of intangible cultural heritage, and Secretary-General Kyung-Koo Han of the Korean National Commission for UNESCO. Session 1 on the 21st will be titled “Safeguarding and Transmitting Traditional Knowledge as Intangible Cultural Heritage” and seek to discuss various perspectives on the preservation and transmission of ICH.


  On the 22nd, Dr. Hahn-Sok Wang, a professor emeritus of the Seoul National University Department of Anthropology, will open Session 2 of the forum with a special lecture. The theme for Session 2 is “Traditional Knowledge and Sustainable Water Management,” with the aim to introduce traditional irrigation techniques such as Japan’s traditional irrigation methods and Indonesia’s Subak irrigation system, as well as the “water judge” system of Corongo Province, Peru and Sri Lanka’s traditional water management knowledge.

  On the final day of the forum, September 23, Session 3 of the forum will unfold under the theme “Understanding and Developing Traditional Medicine as Traditional Knowledge,” which seeks to address traditional medicine from the perspective of intangible heritage to bring the three-day event to a close. Starting with a special lecture by Professor Emerita Judith B. Farquhar from the University of Chicago in the United States, Session 3 will examine traditional medicine of Guam, Thailand, Colombia, and Vietnam as well as related cases from the perspective of intangible heritage.

  In pursuit of survival and prosperity amid relentless changes in the natural environment and progress in society, humanity has constantly accumulated, systematized and transmitted knowledge and wisdom regarding methods to deal with the environment, medical knowledge, customs, and lifestyles to successive generations. In the face of various crises, humanity has also used traditional knowledge to form effective responses and strengthen social solidarity within communities. Traditional knowledge is humanity’s intellectual creation, which was accumulated by utilizing limited resources to the maximum extent for the purpose of survival. However, amid modern progress in science and technology, as well as rapid waves of globalization and urbanization, the value of traditional knowledge has lost the attention it deserves. At the 2022 ICH World Forum, traditional knowledge will be re-examined from the perspective of intangible heritage in order to shed new light on its value and importance.

  This forum will be held online and livestreamed on the YouTube channels of the Cultural Heritage Administration, UNESCO ICHCAP, and Jeonju MBC. It will also be livestreamed on the online metaverse ZEP (https://zep.us/play/2mYqBe).
